The Sea Farm

The sea farm It is an aquatic farm where we breed and feed some marine animals that are consumed regularly and that are of great importance for the gastronomy of Barbados.

This is located on the west side of the island about 7 km from the hotel, not far from the eco park. Specifically, about 100 meters from the coast in the open sea and occupies a total area of 60m2, it is located in this marine space because it allows a better natural development of our seafood since they are in contact with marine food such as plankton, small fish and algae in addition to the nutrients found in this part of the ocean allow them to grow faster and faster than if they were in any artificial reserve with processed or pre-made food.

The marine animals found within our hatchery are: Salmon, sea urchins, prawns, oysters and oysters, shrimp, octopus, squid, sardines, mojarras, sea bass, lobsters, crabs and clams.

These are of great abundance in our locality since the conditions and the climate allow them to develop in an easier way, causing a rapid reproduction in them.

Our main purpose is to raise marine animals in a sustainable way and that we do not see ourselves in the need to make deals with businesses outside of our company so that, in the future, we can export local food.

We also create it so that the animals that grow in it within a period of 1-9 business months, can be sent to the hotel restaurant and cooked by our chefs, in fact, that is one of the reasons why we stand out among the best places in the area since everything is fresh and organic.

This place helped the community of Barbados a lot since before there was no variety of animals due to the constant hunting and the lack of marine farms, now in addition to giving them work, they can get the animals we raise at very affordable prices, as a part of these it is sent to the Barbados market and there several merchants sell them to the people.

The sea animals live here around 9 months but it depends on the way we treat them and the animals that we are talking about because for example the shrimps stay here around 1 – 2 months because they are too small and too easy to reproduce. But the octopuses and some other fishes grow in a lapse of 9 – 11 months.

The animals are really well cared and fed because they live all the time with the appropriate cares like the food and the register of temperature.
We are all the time checking the farm temperature and if this one is adequate for the animal species that are located there, if it isn´t they are moved to another zone of the farm space.
We give them some small fishes and plankton with dry seaweed. To the clams and oysters we give them some nutrients that we introduce into the water every week.
And for the crabs some bait pieces that we use for joining animals in the small fishnet.
